New USPS Rate & Service Changes Coming July 9, 2023

Updated: Jul 14, 2023

Flat-Rate Shipping: What it is & When to use it

Starting July 9, 2023, USPS is merging First-Class Package Service® and Parcel Select Ground® into a new and improved ground service called USPS Ground Advantage™.

What is USPS Ground Advantage?

USPS Ground Advantage is an affordable and reliable way for you to ship packages up to 70 lbs in 2-5 business days - which is business as usual with no change in delivery time if you typically ship First-Class or Parcel Select.

Here's what you can expect:

  • Ground Advantage rates for packages UNDER 1 lb (previously named First Class Package) are staying the same.

  • Ground Advantage rates for packages OVER 1 lb (previously named Parcel Select) are mixed, meaning some rates are decreasing up to $3, and some are increasing up to $1.06.

  • Priority Mail rates are decreasing up to $4.83, meaning Priority Mail is a faster and more affordable way to ship packages in 1-3 business days.

  • Free package pickup at your home, store, or office.

  • Ground Advantage is the primary option for sending hazardous materials (HAZMAT) that are only mailable using Ground Transportation.

  • If you typically ship First Class or Parcel Select on, then starting July 9th, simply look for the new name called “Ground Advantage.”

When a package is a candidate for both USPS Ground Advantage and USPS Priority Mail, which should I choose?

  • USPS Ground Advantage will likely be less expensive in any instance.

  • Priority Mail will be faster, getting the package into your customers hands in 1-3 business days (vs. 2-5 business days with Ground Advantage).

  • Priority Mail provides free packaging supplies - simply click here to order!
